Hunting & Fishing Combination
Uruguay Dorado Fishing
For those of you who like the idea of a wingshooting combination package that includes more than one species of wildfowl in the hunt, we ask you to consider taking it one step further and trying your hand at the fishing. Our Golden Dorado fishing combinations offer you a chance to trade in your shotguns for spinning or fly tackle, and offer a chance at a once in a lifetime trophy—a 50 pound Golden Dorado. Image rising in the morning to a great day of Uruguay duck hunting, and then after a traditional Uruguayan BBQ field lunch, hitting the river for dorado—it just does not get any better (unless you are going to add some Uruguay dove hunting too).
When the word “dorado” comes up, many think “Mahi Mahi”. However, the Golden Dorado is a freshwater fish that is unique to South America, and bears no resemblance to the Mahi Mahi in any way. The dorado is a fish that evolved from the Salmonoid family, but can also trace its roots back to the brethren that it shares the river with—the piranha. The dorado has razor sharp teeth and destroys lures and flies with glee. Once hooked, you can expect the fight of your life, and these fish love to jump—often leaping five to six feet out of the water!
Los Gauchos is really getting a lot of interest in the freshwater fishing in Uruguay and with new flight service from Montevideo to Salto, it is becoming easier to head out to the Uruguay River and experience the exciting dorado fish.
